Wolverhampton bursts into life as UK City of Light

‘Into the Light - Enchanted City’ was a stunning illumination of Wolverhampton’s buildings in a free pilot event over two nights on 26 and 27 October.

Based on the city motto, Out of the Darkness and into the Light, the event staked Wolverhampton’s claim as the UK City of Light.

Lighting technology was complemented by dance, drama and music performances on stages around the city centre featuring 24 local community groups and professional artists.

Partnership project

The Festival was supported by funding from the European Regional Development Fund as part of the Black Country visitor economy partnership project with Birmingham.

The city is now looking to build a festival programme for 2014 that may include three major events each featuring spectacular light displays and local community talent.

As with the pilot event these will include close collaboration between schools, colleges, businesses and local leisure and visitor attractions.
