WMCA appoints finance director to top tier team

The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) today announced the latest key appointment to its executive top tier.

Sean Pearce was named as director of finance for the combined authority, joining a team to be led by incoming chief executive Deborah Cadman.

He comes from his role as chief financial officer at Worcestershire County Council, where he led the finance team for six years, working on the delivery of major transformation and change programmes through some significant financial challenges. He will work closely with the Mayor of the West Midlands Andy Street and the chief executive to drive forward a number of initiatives including the delivery of a capital investment programme of at least £8 billion as part of the devolution deal.

Deborah said: “I am delighted we have found such a high quality officer to lead on our finance agenda, which is so vital to our future devolution journey.

“We can change people’s lives for the better if we seize the opportunities opening up in front of us and we want the best people around us to do that.”

Sean said: "I am really pleased to be offered the post of finance director at the West Midlands Combined Authority.

“I am looking forward to joining a dynamic and demanding team led by Deborah Cadman and working with all of the finance directors and chief financial officers from the constituent and non-constituent authorities to ensure the potential of the West Midlands region can be realised.

“Solid foundations have been laid by Mark Taylor who has led the teams recently on an interim basis.

“I wish Mark well in continuing his work with one of our valued constituent authorities, Wolverhampton City Council in the future".

Sean will take up his post in the autumn.

The combined authority is also currently recruiting for a strategic director of housing & regeneration and a director of skills & productivity.
