HVM City: Opportunity Gateway success at West Midlands Construction Excellence Awards

The West Midlands Celebrating Construction Excellence Awards were held on Friday night in Birmingham at the ICC where local business leaders were in attendance to celebrate this year’s regional construction highlights.

A joint entry led by the Black Country LEP and West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) was recognised for its collaborative work around HVM City.

The partners picked up the top winners award of the night in the Client of the Year category for its visionary work in developing an opportunity gateway to alert West Midlands firms to the £multi-billion contracts and inward investment opportunities aligned to its regeneration projects.

The Celebrating Construction Excellence Awards are the most celebrated and sought-after awards in construction. They are said to represent the West Midlands best initiatives, individuals and organisations across the region.

Black Country LEP and WMCA were praised by the judging panel who said:

no other client is doing more to support, improve and engage with its supply chain, creating 3D portals and specialist training frameworks to market the West Midlands as a region of growth, opportunity and digital construction excellence is truly pioneering.  HVM City is an inspirational showcase that demonstrates supply chain integration and collaboration”.

Black Country LEP and WMCA gained further acknowledgment on the night alongside the Midland Metro Alliance.

The partners were shortlisted as finalists for their visionary work on the soon-to-be-launched BIDsmarter App – a cloud-based digital platform and smartphone APP which helps SMEs to improve their competitiveness, build knowledge & become digitally equipped to win contracts on major rail transportation projects.

The joint entry, despite being at its conceptual project stage narrowly missed out to winners, Telford based Lyreco in the Innovation category.

Paul Brown, Black Country LEP Board Member said,

It is rewarding to have our work recognised in this way. We are committed to helping our businesses in the Black Country and are constantly striving to support them to their growth journey. Working in partnership, finding and developing innovative ways to drive business growth is both a challenge and an opportunity".

HVM City is proving to be valuable to our businesses as they embrace the work-winning opportunities in the Construction Industry.

This year’s awards were presented at a high profile dinner on Friday 13 April 2018. More than six hundred West Midlands based business leaders and innovators from across the construction and manufacturing sectors gathered at the ICC, Birmingham, to celebrate the very best industry projects.

Black Country LEP and WMCA as winners of the Client of the Year regional awards, automatically move forward to represent the West Midlands at the high-profile national Constructing Excellence awards held in London later this year.
