Housing groups push for trainees

A regional housing provider is encouraging more people to consider an apprenticeship.

Walsall-based whg is backing the National Apprenticeship Week campaign, which runs until Saturday, showcasing the success stories of its own apprentices.

Theresa Huburn, whg’s Corporate Director of people and learning said: “We are immensely proud of our apprenticeship programme and currently have 39 in the business, ranging from those in housing and admin to carpentry and plumbing.

“Among these are eight colleagues upskilling and working towards degrees as part of a higher-level apprenticeship.

“The apprenticeship model has been a great way for us to build for the future, starting with spotting talent from outside the organisation to supporting growth from within.”

The group is among the largest and most successful providers of high-quality housing in the Midlands and currently homes more than 50,000 people in around 21,000 properties.

It has a presence in 18 local authority areas across the region.
