Dudley Canal Trust Celebrates Award for Excellence

Local attraction Dudley Canal Tunnel and Limestone Mines are celebrating success, having been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for 2016.

The award celebrates hospitality excellence and is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews on the internet travel review site.

"Receiving this award is a fantastic achievement for all of our staff and volunteers” said Nick Morris, CEO of Dudley Canal Trust Trips Ltd.

"We’ve had a fantastic year so far in terms of visitor figures since the opening of our new visitor centre, The Portal, and this tells us that people are greatly enjoying their visits. We’re proud to be one of Dudley’s favourite visitor attractions.”

To qualify for the Certificate of Excellence, businesses must maintain an overall rating of four or higher, out of a possible five, as reviewed by travellers on TripAdvisor. Additional criteria include the volume of reviews received within the last 12 months.

The award comes as Dudley Canal Trust has recently opened the new Portal building as part of a £3 million development which provides enhanced visitor facilities, including a new permanent exhibition, learning suite and function room, restaurant and improved access.

Major funding partners for the project to create the Portal include the European Regional Development Fund £997,000, Heritage Lottery Fund £989,000, Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership £755,000 and Biffa Award £500,000.  Other charitable donors include The Garfield Weston Foundation, J P Getty Jr Charitable Trust, Headley Trust, The Wolfson Foundation, Dudley Canal Trust, Dudley Canal Trust (Trips), and £30,000 raised by a public appeal.
