Call out as third Literature Festival dates revealed

The dates for the third annual Wolverhampton Literature Festival have been announced for 2019.

The citywide event will run from Friday 1 to Sunday 3 February, with the headline performers to be announced later this month (October).

The festival has previously featured acclaimed writers such as Sathnam Sanghera and Will Self.

There is still time for local writers and performers to make additional contributions. Anyone interested should email phil.turner2@wolverhampton.gov.uk.

City of Wolverhampton Council Cabinet Member for City Economy, Councillor John Reynolds, said:

“The festival is going from strength to strength, and the ethos has always been to showcase what an amazingly creative place the City of Wolverhampton is.

“Previous festivals have been driven by the wealth of talent from the area and we’re looking for local writers and performers, as well as general ideas for events that people would like to see.

“The festival has given a platform to both aspiring and established writers and we welcome mixed levels of experience.

“We are keen for the festival to continue being a collaboration with the local community.”

The 2018 City of Wolverhampton Literature Festival saw record attendance levels of 6,200 across a total of 98 events at 26 city venues.

Events included children’s story-telling, educational workshops, theatre and performance, literature, poetry reading, music and art talks.

Funding from the Arts Council England National Portfolio for Organisations was received in September 2017 to secure the festival’s future up to 2022.
