Big Sleuth Campaign - NWM Bear Hunt

The Big Sleuth in Birmingham and the surrounding areas is raising money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity. A small group of staff from the West Midlands Combined Authority are taking the day off on 1st August to try and visit as many of the 100 big bears in 12 hours, and will only travel by public transport between them!

The team are going to raise money along the way in aid of the children’s hospital, which is close to many of our hearts for the amazing work it does helping children and their families in times of need. This is also a great time to showcase the public transport network, and its connectivity across the region. The West Midlands Combined Authority’s biggest brand Network West Midlands will be used to communicate the day’s activity as the team race around to visit the 100 bears.

Goldilocks and the 3 bears is one of the most famous bear associated stories, so it seems only right to send a staff member dressed as the famous Goldilocks who will lead a team of “NWM Bears”. We hope this will create a real buzz and sense of excitement around the team as they go sleuthing along the network, and encourage people to donate.

You can follow the team’s effort on August 1st from 9am- 9pm on Network West Midlands Twitter and Facebook and help us raise money for this great cause by sharing on social media using #NWMBears.

You can also support the team and the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity by donating at and/ or by texting WMCA50 £2/£3/£5 or £10 to 70070.

The day will end at the West Midlands Combined Authority’s gifted bear Banteay Srei which is outside the ICC on the canal at 9pm. Feel free to meet them there to celebrate.

Our Swift team have put together a special edition Pay As You Go card which is available to the public to buy for £13. It includes £10 credit, a £3 donation to Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity and comes branded in The Big Sleuth colours.

You can buy online at or from Birmingham New Street’s Network West Midlands travel centre.
