Awards success for Working Together

The City Deal ‘Working Together’ project team won ‘Team of the Year’ in the Accord Group’s annual ‘Great People Awards’ for their work supporting unemployed people across the Black Country back into work.

The prestigious awards ceremony hosted by Accord Group is a celebration of the company’s successes over the past year. Held at the Bank’s Stadium in Walsall, the ‘Working Together’ team consisting of Director Jacki Lakin, along with Wendy Matthews, Dawn Bodley, Sarah Richards and Bal Kaur scooped the award after being chosen as finalists, following over 200 nominations for the overall awards.

City Deal Director, Jacki Lakin, said: “The achievement of this award is a tremendous credit to the great work of our team and their passion and enthusiasm in wanting to make a difference to the lives of unemployed people across the Black Country.

“We would like to thank all partners involved in the project and hope to continue this success in the future”.

Double celebration

In addition to winning Team of the Year, one of the teams’ clients was also shortlisted as a finalist for ‘Customer of the Year.’

Nicola Clarke was nominated due to her achievement of being supported into employment by one of the project partners; Walsall Adult and Community College. Nicola joined the ‘Working Together’ programme after meeting with one of the Community Connectors. Having been out of work for 19 years due to poor health and other challenges, she felt she would never be able to work again.

Following intense one to one support and mentoring, Nicola completed a range of courses and went on to apply for a job with her new found confidence, to which she succeeded in gaining a position. Nicola progressed so well, that in a few short months she was promoted to a supervisory position within the organisation.

Jacki Lakin continued: “This is an excellent example of how the project has helped to support a client to realise their full potential.

“We are extremely proud of everyone involved with Nicola’s journey and how far she has come in such a short amount of time”.
